The Offences:
Causing death by Dangerous Driving
Causing Death by Careless Driving (introduced August 2008)
Causing Death by driving unlicensed, disqualified or uninsured (introduced August 2008)
Causing death by Careless Driving whilst over the prescribed limit
Careless Driving (accidents pre August 2008)
The Penalties:
The government introduced new offences in August 2008 bringing a fundamental change to the manner of sentencing the type of tragic accidents in which there is some driver fault but which sadly leads to death. These offences have as yet been untested, although the offence of causing death by dangerous driving remains and will upon conviction inevitably result in a prison sentence and lengthy driving disqualification.
How we can help:
We recognise these offences to be highly sensitive and deal with these cases accordingly. Our solicitors all have experience in representing clients accused of these types of offences and often enlist the services of specialist experts to advise on the accident itself. Where it is not possible to defend these allegations, we mitigate in a sensitive and sympathetic way, ensuring that the sentence is fair.
